Other than bankruptcy, what's the fastest way to get rid of credit card debt?

I hear a lot about debt consolidation, second mortgages, and unsecured loans, but with the credit crunch, it seems harder to get rid of credit card debt.

Yes there are many options other then bankruptcy to get out of credit card debts. You can go for credit card debt consolidation loans or credit card settlement. Try out here i have heard a lot about it....

I admit i had a major meltdown with one of my credit card companies. I have had this card for literally half of my life, and I have never had a late payment. In October I set up the online payment as usual, but for some reason it didn't go through, and i did not know this. A few weeks later they called saying i owed a huge amount of money. And I flipped. I went on and on about how unfair it all is (that card was 9% for years - suddenly it became %19, etc) You can just refuse to pay your bill and they offer you a juicy settlement but if you bust your butt to pay your minimum payment for years and years OH WELL. I told them I was sick and tired of being a slave to their company and basically i GIVE UP! My cc payments are as much as my mortgage, and I can't see a way out of this. The poor woman on the other end! ( I did tell her a million times it wasn't personal - I was just fed up). So what she came up with is this - They close my account, so I can't use my card. I pay them $350 a month (before the payments were about $310 - balance is $13,000.00 - and this is only ONE of my cards) for one year and they reduce the interest rate to 9.5%. After a year if I've paid (which I will, you can bet) everything goes back to normal and they don't report the october payment as late. I probably wrecked my credit score, but at least this way my payments will go slightly further. I am hoping things loosen up within the year as far as credit goes, but who knows. You're right - it's SO much harder now. I used to get things in the mail every day offering 0% interest on balance transfers with HUGE credit limits, and I used to control my debt that way, but no more. I got an offer in the mail RECENTLY for that same thing and was declined! That has never happened to me before - my credit has always been good, now it's FAIR and I haven't changed a thing!
LOL - sorry! This is a topic i could discuss at length. I know I got myself into my own mess. I had a family 'situation' that left me broke, alone w/nothing else to do but charge it.
I guess a short answer is call your credit card co. and go ballistic on the poor girl who answers the phone!

It's sad that many of life's little hiccups are answered that way. If companies would empower their employees to make decisions based on a customer's history, then you shouldn't need to yell and scream to get your way.

Wasn't there supposed to be some legislation that was supposed to kick in to make your credit card companies treat their customers better?

I'm thinking of going and thowing myself at the mercy of my credit union for a loan - now that my credit has probably been damaged! Anyway, I'm watching this thread for ideas for myself!

Credit cards are terrible, and certainly responsible for plenty of our economic woes. If you make the minimum payments, it can take forever to pay off, and cost you thousands more in interest payments. Im hoping someone can share their experience in how to overcome credit card interest without damaging their credit.

I have had a horrible time with my credit card debt, especially when I was unemployed and couldn't pay them. That's when I went with a consolidation service. That was ok for a while, but then I couldn't make those payments.. So then I went to a settlement service. I was with the credit card settlement (Persels and Associates) for 12 months. They did help me a great deal, because during the time I was unemployed I couldn't handle dealing with the credit card companies myself. However when I did find employment and got back on my feet I did find a much better program. I picked up the Total Money Makeover book by Dave Ramsey. I swear he gives this great step by step by step plan that really gives you all the ideas and plans you need to succeed in conquering your debt. I'm now off of the settlement plan and taking care of the credit card companies myself. My settlement plan was a four year long plan and now following the plan in the book I should be done paying the cards off within nine months. It sounds unbelievable, but it's true. If you give it a chance and believe that you can do it, then you can get rid of that debt too. That is my personal experience. Three months ago I was at the end of my rope, and now I can't believe I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Good luck!
